Cocktails, Cocktails, Cocktails

What does a Mint Julep make you think of? The Kentucky Derby, right? But why should such a delicious cocktail be relegated to that one day for an event that lasts only two minutes? They're way too tasty for that. And with the addition of juicy watermelon, you've got a refreshing cocktail to serve all summer.

Watermelon Mint Julep

1 1/2 oz. Rio Brazos Texas Whiskey (I like to use local or Texas liquor brands if possible!)
½ oz. Russell & Mahoney simple syrup
5 sprigs fresh mint
6 cubes fresh watermelon

Muddle simple syrup and watermelon in a mixing glass. Add mint and press lightly to release oils. Add bourbon and mix well with cracked ice. Strain over crushed ice. Garnish with watermelon and fresh mint.

Thanks to Bonnie and Lauren for all of the incredible pictures.
